Akti Kanari & Nea Hora

Firstly the Chania city tour starts from Akti Kanari passing in front of the two old chimneys of Avea oil refinery. This is a rare example of the first industrial buildings of the last century on the island of Crete. We reach the picturesque harbor of Nea Hora (New Country). This name was given to this area because it became the new country for the thousands of refugees, who were forced to leave their homeland at the Turkish Aegean coast, in the early 1920s.
