Our Samaria Gorge tour has an early, but very comfortable start. Our very carefully organized late morning departure is done only because we like to offer our clients a more private and exclusive service, giving them the opportunity of an extra 30min later morning departure, which we believe makes this particular trip a lot more comfortable.
Our early morning adventure for Samaria Gorge tour starts from Kolimbari at 5.45 am and through the villages of kolimbari- Maleme – Gerani-Platanias –Agia Marina – Stalos –Chania we end up at the foot hills of the White Mountains in the village of Fournes next to Kerritis river. Driving through fertile orange groves and quite few traditional villages we finally reach Omalos plains where we have a 30 min stop for coffee and breakfast.
At around 8.00 am we take you to Xiloskalo where is the entrance of the gorge at 1222 meters above the sea level. The walking distance is 18 km and it takes approximately 4-5 and a half hours to reach the exit of the Gorge.
While walking you can treat yourself with small brakes to get some rest but also cool yourself down with some water and at the same time admire the unique flora and fauna of the Gorge .
Feel the excitement of walking through the Iron Gates and finally at the exit reward yourself with a refreshing dive into the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea at the traditional fishing Village of Agia Roumeli.
Agia Roumeli is a small picturesque fishing village about 1 klm away from the exit of the Gorge , laying leisurely at the edge of the water of the Lybian Sea.
You have quite a few choices for lunch, in one of the small family tavernas enjoying local recipies and a cold drink. It is also the place where you will get the boat to take you to Sougia Bay where our bus will be waiting for you, for the transfer back to your hotel.
Sailing time from Agia Roumeli to Sougia Bay is approximately one hour and the bus transfer to the North coast is approximately 1hour.30 min
